Job summary

Florida State University’s National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee seeks a Technical Designer, Level I (Cryogenics) to operate and maintain helium cryogenic systems and related equipment, including the 45T hybrid magnet infrastructure. The role involves on-call duties and proactive safety practices.

You will fill liquid helium orders, support scientists, and collaborate with NHMFL staff to uphold safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience for the role.
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment is preferred.
  • On-call duties and safety awareness are required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot helium cryogenic systems, equipment and instrumentation.
  • Operate the power supplies and support systems of the 45 Telsa Hybrid Magnet.
  • Operate the cryogenics system of the Series Connected Hybrid Magnet and assist scientists.
  • Manage distribution of liquid helium to users and superconducting magnets.
  • Coordinate and prepare Lock, Tag, Verify procedures per NHMFL safety policies.
  • Work with NHMFL personnel on safety policy development and evaluation.
