Job summary

Northwestern University’s Cryogenic Facility seeks a Cryogenics Specialist to ensure a steady supply of liquid helium and liquid nitrogen across the Evanston campus. You will operate the helium liquefier, manage the helium gas recovery system, and develop procedures to reduce losses while maintaining safe practices for all facility users.

You will also coordinate deliveries, support training workshops, and monitor performance to align with the OR mission and Northwestern's values of empathy,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.
• Experience maintaining high-pressure He storage systems including dewar safety, pump maintenance and operation, leak detection and inventory management.
• Experience with storage, transfer, and usage of He and Nitrogen at cryogenic temperatures, including efficient transfer to dewars, transfer within labs, and He recovery.

Responsibilities

• Run the helium liquefier and operate the helium gas recovery system for Evanston users.
• Manage supply and billing, order raw products, and distribute cryogens to campus users.
• Operate and help maintain cryogenic production equipment and oversee bulk nitrogen delivery.
