Job summary

Jefferson Lab in Newport News, VA seeks a Cryogenics Mechanical Design Engineer to design and support cryogenic components for the EIC project. You will work with cryogenics teams to develop 2 K and 4 K helium refrigeration systems and to ensure robust mechanical integration with process requirements.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering and experience with 3D CAD, stress analysis, and cryogenic systems. On-site position with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering is required.
• Preferred:Mechanical design experience with 3D CAD.
• Ability to read, interpret, and provide feedback on engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
• Strong knowledge of cryogenic systems, ASME codes, and pressure vessel design.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design of cryogenic components and systems for the EIC project, including cryostats, cold boxes, vacuum systems, transfer lines, and piping.
• Perform engineering analysis of designs (stress, thermal, fluid).
• Prepare component specifications, procurement documents, and assist with vendor reviews and installation.
• Collaborate with Cryo designers, technicians, and process engineers to integrate designs with process requirements.
• Provide mechanical support to operational cryogenic plants as needed.
