Job summary

Jefferson Lab in Newport News, VA, seeks a skilled technician to provide mechanical support for the Hall A experimental program. You will fabricate, assemble, install, and test detectors, magnets, and support infrastructure while maintaining safety and documentation standards.

The role requires interpreting complex drawings, welding (SMAW/TIG/MIG), and operating cranes and heavy machinery. On-site work with occasional overtime and on-call rotation is expected.

Qualifications

• Must be able to interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with welding (SMAW, TIG, MIG) and fabricating components.
• Familiarity with conventional machining and CNC equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical support for installation of Hall A systems and equipment.
• Fabricate, assemble, install and test detectors, magnets, power supplies and infrastructure hardware.
• Operate and maintain vacuum, cryogenic, and beamline components as required.
• Support safety trainings and read drawings across electronics, mechanical, and cryogenic areas.
• Provide technical support during experiments and document equipment status.
