Job summary

SpaceX is hiring a Process Operator Specialist for the Air Separation Unit (Starship) at Starbase. You will operate cryogenic distillation, turboexpanders, compressors, and sieve systems while monitoring parameters and executing procedures.

You will qualify toward independent watch standing and support startup/shutdown activities in a night shift. The role emphasizes learning cryogenic physics, distillation theory, and equipment performance maps, with opportunities to contribute to process

Qualifications

• Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or process engineering technology; or 6+ years of experience working in an industrial environment or plant operations dealing with air separation units, cryogenics, industrial gases, chemical, or oil & gas
• 4+ years of experience operating or supporting automated industrial processes
• Experience using P&IDs/process flow diagrams; knowledge of LOTO boundaries, valve lineups, troubleshooting, or field rounds against drawings
• Hands-on experience in a cryogenic plant, industrial gas facility, chemical plant, or launch/propellant facility
• Experience with a Distributed Control System (Honeywell, Siemens, Rockwell, or equivalent) or HMI operation
• Familiarity with mechanical equipment isolation or maintenance on industrial rotating machinery
• Experience with lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, hot work permitting, confined spaces, or Process Safety Management (PSM) practices

Responsibilities

• Monitor the ASU via distributed control system and field rounds, identify deviations, and report promptly
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate critical ASU equipment including compressors, turboexpanders, distillation columns, sieve beds, gas analyzers, valves, and electrical systems
• Execute plant startups, shutdowns, mode changes, and abnormal situation responses per procedures and alarm matrices
• Collect process samples, perform field tests, log data accurately, and report deviations immediately
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to implement designs and improvements in the field
• Develop and refine operating procedures, checklists, and troubleshooting guides grounded in cryogenic physics
