Job summary

Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, VA, is seeking a cryoEM scientist who will operate and maintain Titan Krios and related equipment. You will lead the cryoEM portion of collaborations, plan experiments, review data, and develop new protocols for sample preparation, data collection, and image processing.

Applicants should have a PhD, strong Linux/Python skills, and the ability to manage multiple user projects while training staff and users in cryoEM techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD in a related field and collaborative mindset.
• Fluent with Linux, Bash scripting, and basic Python to troubleshoot hardware/software.
• Ability to juggle multiple concurrent user projects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Experience teaching cryoEM methods to users and staff.

Responsibilities

• Run the microscopes end to end, maintain equipment, and troubleshoot hardware/software with peers and vendors.
• Own pieces of collaboration projects from planning experiments to reviewing results and proposing next steps.
• Build, test, and implement new protocols for sample prep, data collection, and image processing.
