Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is hiring a Certified Respiratory Therapist for multiple shifts. You will evaluate and treat patients with respiratory insufficiencies, develop care plans, monitor equipment, and respond to emergencies in the Respiratory Therapy department.

This full-time role requires a graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with active Alabama licensure (NBRC credential) and BLS. Sign-on bonus up to $6,000 is available for eligible full-time hires.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Alabama Licensed Respiratory Therapist credential required.
• NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist credential required.
• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment; monitor, record and communicate patient condition; perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
• Educate patient and family about health condition and community support resources.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of equipment; manage inventory; follow cleaning/sterilization procedures; respond to emergency calls.

Job Description

Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provide information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of all equipment. Participate in maintaining departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment. Processe equipment per established cleaning/sterilization procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
