UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies. You will assess care plans, implement and monitor therapies, and educate patients and families about conditions and community resources.

Responsibilities include equipment calibration and maintenance, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board required.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed from NBRC required.
• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date required (AHA/ARC accepted).
• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.

• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of equipment; manage inventory; sterilize procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls.

Job Description

Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provide information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of all equipment. Participate in maintaining departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment. Processe equipment per established cleaning/sterilization procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
