UAB Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to evaluate and treat patients with respiratory insufficiencies. The role requires NBRC registration, Alabama licensure, and BLS within 30 days. You will assess treatment needs, implement care plans, monitor responses, and educate patients and families while responding to codes.

The position offers a benefits package and a schedule of 3 twelve-hour shifts with every other weekend, at UAB STV Birmingham.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
• NBRC Registered credentialed Respiratory Therapist required.
• Alabama licensure in Respiratory Therapy required.
• BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS preferred; PALS preferred.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Certification preferred.

• Evaluate respiratory practice, medications administration, and treatment outcomes.
• Educate patient and family about health conditions and available programs.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.

Job Description

Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) preferred.
• Respiratory Therapist specializing in Registered credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
