Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Respiratory Therapist for PRN daytime coverage at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. You will evaluate and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies, develop plans, and implement treatments.

Requires NBRC registered credentials, BLS, and Alabama licensure; ALS/PALS/CALS certifications are preferred. This position offers a supportive team and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire/transfer.
• NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist credentialed prior to hire/transfer.
• AL Board of Respiratory Therapy credential prior to hire/transfer.
• Advanced Life Support preferred (AHA/ARC accepted).
• Neonatal Resuscitation certification preferred (AAP).
• Pediatric Life Support preferred (AHA/ARC accepted).

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
• Assess type/frequency of treatment; develop plan of care.
• Implement and monitor care plan and equipment; document patient condition.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, medications, and outcomes.
• Educate patient and family about condition and community resources.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team codes.

Job Description

Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Respiratory Therapist specializing in Registered credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
