Job Description:

The Cboe Regulatory Division (the “Division”) is actively seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Cross Market Surveillance team. The Investigator will conduct real-time and pattern-based surveillance to assist in determinations of potential rule violations of Cboe Options, CFE Futures Exchanges (collectively, the “Exchanges”) Rules along with other applicable rules and regulations governing Exchange Members and Trading Permit Holders (“TPH”).

Job Description:

The Cboe Regulatory Division (the “Division”) is actively seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Cross Market Surveillance team. The Investigator will conduct real-time and pattern-based surveillance to assist in determinations of potential rule violations of Cboe Options, CFE Futures Exchanges (collectively, the “Exchanges”) Rules along with other applicable rules and regulations governing Exchange Members and Trading Permit Holders (“TPH”).

Location: Chicago office (flex hybrid)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct surveillance and analysis of or order entry and trade on the Exchanges to detect possible violations of Cboe and CFE rules and policies.
  • Analyze and compile data into meaningful summaries, update files promptly, and make findings available to the team.
  • Contribute to the creation of new surveillance processes, operational methodologies, and surveillance techniques that address the Regulatory program’s concerns.
  • Conduct investigations to ensure compliance with Exchanges rules.
  • Build and maintain an understanding of the Exchanges’ regulatory environment, relevant rules and regulations, technologies and systems, processes and operational methodologies, and investigative and examination techniques.
  • Collaborate and communicate with cross-functional teams, particularly the Options Investigations team, to enhance or create solutions and make the team more effective and efficient.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Exceptional written, analytical, and research skills and the ability to apply both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and effective communication skills (verbal and oral).
  • 2+ years of experience in the securities and trading industry. (derivatives experience preferred)
  • Highly proficient in MS Office suite products.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of management and staff.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with relational databases
  • Basic proficiency in Python programming fundamentals (variables, data types, control structures)
  • Experience working with Python libraries such as pandas for data transformation
  • Ability to read, process, and analyze structured data (CSV, Excel files)
  • Knowledge of basic data visualization using libraries like matplotlib
  • Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks, PyChart for interactive data analysis
  • General interest in expanding Python skills
  • Experience with SMARTS Trade System Surveillance software

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; economics, business, accounting or finance (preferred).

Our pay ranges are determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, role, experience, level, and location. The national new hire base pay range for this job in the United States is $72,250-$89,250. This range represents the minimum and maximum base pay the company expects to offer for new hires working in the position full time. If you live in one of the following areas or if you work in a Cboe office in the following areas, the range may be higher according to the geographic differentials listed below:

US Geographic Differentials:

  • 110%: Austin TX, Chicago IL, Denver CO, San Diego CA
  • 115%: Los Angeles CA, Seattle WA
  • 120%: Boston MA, Washington DC
  • 125%: New York City NY
  • 130%: San Francisco CA

Within the range, individual pay is determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay, our total rewards program includes an annual variable pay program and benefits including healthcare (medical, dental and vision), 401 (k) with a generous company match, life and disability insurance, paid time off, market-leading tuition assistance, and much more!
