Job summary

Syngenta Crop Protection invites applications for a Heartland Crop Protection Field Development Intern in Champaign, IL. The internship offers hands-on exposure to field, greenhouse, and laboratory environments while collaborating with R&D scientists to advance crop protection products and technologies.

You will shadow teams, gain professional and leadership skills, and complete an internship project with guidance from Crop Protection Field Development Scientists.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an Associate’s, Bachelor's, or advanced degree program in Agriculture, Biological Sciences, or another closely related field of study.
• Continued enrollment after the internship concludes (graduation date of December 2027 or later).
• A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors and outside normal working hours.
• Proficiency operating basic farm equipment is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

• Build knowledge of Syngenta, crop protection, and the product development process.
• Develop an understanding of Crop Protection Field Development’s role in research and development.
• Support Crop Protection Field Development trialing activities, such as planting, treatment application, maintenance, in-field data capture, data summarization, and hosting field tours.
• Develop an understanding of Crop Protection Field Development’s collaboration with local Syngenta commercial teams (e.g., Sales, Agronomy Services).
• Learn processes and skills utilized to develop products and technologies.
• Learn how to work independently, without direct supervision, and in compliance with Syngenta safety guidelines.
• Identify two to three personal development goals and actively pursue them throughout the internship.
• Manage an internship project under the guidance of Crop Protection Field Development Scientist(s).
• Deliver a final summary presentation of the internship project/experience to stakeholders.
• Participate in performance discussions with a supervisor to support continuous learning, growth, and professional development.
