Overview

As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will help maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters operational. Your responsibilities include performing basic monitoring and inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, enforcing safety and security standards, and developing operating procedures (MOPs and SOPs).

As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician, you will deliver core infrastructure for services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Responsibilities
  1. Equipment and Systems Operations
  2. Perform monitoring, inspections, and assessments of critical environment equipment such as controls, HVAC, mechanical systems, and building grounds.
  3. Understand and respond to system alarms, escalating issues as per policies.
  4. Use telemetry and control systems to monitor site status, analyze events, and identify critical alarms.
  5. Track asset data and work orders using CMMS, documenting all activities accurately.
  6. Respond safely to abnormal conditions, participate in incident analysis, and develop or follow emergency procedures.

  2. Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs within trained disciplines, following safety procedures.
  3. Document work, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with team members and vendors.
  4. Troubleshoot equipment issues independently, escalate when necessary, and ensure system parameters are maintained.
  5. Coordinate with third-party contractors, ensuring safety and scope compliance.
  6. Complete reports and develop or update operational procedures to ensure safety and reliability.

  2. Follow safety and security protocols, participate in training, and promote a safe working environment.
  3. Recognize unsafe conditions, escalate concerns, and support continuous safety improvements.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Occasional ladder climbing, frequent stairs and ramps, prolonged standing.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling 50-75 lbs with assistance.
  • Normal visual acuity and color vision for electrical work.
