Overview

As a Senior Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters operational. Your responsibilities include coordinating with suppliers/vendors, working closely with management on operational, risk, and safety issues, mentoring other technicians, understanding critical environment equipment, performing maintenance, responding to incidents, and monitoring equipment performance using telemetry platforms.

Responsibilities
  1. Datacenter Operations
  2. Provide guidance on processes for installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning datacenter technology and equipment.
  3. Maintain expertise in cabling, networking, server, and storage functions, and guide others accordingly.
  4. Review process change notifications and communicate relevant updates to ensure workflow efficiency.
  5. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, escalate issues as needed, and complete tickets efficiently, meeting KPIs.
  6. Service Delivery
  7. Guide less experienced technicians, develop effective execution strategies, and perform hardware startups and shutdowns following instructions.
  8. Conduct quality control activities, verify deployments, and identify errors for escalation.
  9. Apply diagnostics to identify issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  10. Report and escalate incidents, participate in bridge calls, and contribute to service quality improvements.
  11. Perform decommissions, simple and complex changes, and manage device destruction processes.
  12. Managing Service
  13. Escalate client interaction issues and monitor KPIs for performance reviews.
  14. Develop understanding of cross-functional processes and support stakeholder partnerships.
  15. Complete required training, mentor colleagues, and pursue certifications as needed.
  16. Datacenter Work Environment
  17. Participate in safety briefings, complete safety and security training, and promote a safety culture.
  18. Escort vendors, report security concerns, and collaborate with team members across shifts.
  19. Follow physical and operational safety procedures, and support a positive team environment.

Physical requirements include occasional ladder climbing, frequent stairs, prolonged standing, and lifting or pushing weights up to 50 lbs with assistance. Visual acuity and color vision are required for electrical work.
