Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Education Specialist to lead nursing program development and classroom instruction for the Critical Care service line, with cardiac surgical experience preferred.

You will assess learning needs, build education plans, mentor staff, and promote evidence-based practice across units, using adult learning principles and onboarding for new hires.

Qualifications

• Current State of Iowa licensed registered nurse.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required or actively enrolled in an MSN program. Degree in Nursing Education preferred. Master’s Degree must be obtained within five years of hire.
• Minimum three years acute care clinical nursing experience.
• Cardiac surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Functions as an expert clinician in nursing practice across subspecialties (e.g., critical care, cardiology).
• Develops educational plans and learning resources; provides orientation for staff and students.
• Acts as an educational consultant and mentors unit preceptors.
• Utilizes IT for data input, analysis, and program development.
• Collaborates on onboarding and orientation for new hires.
