Job summary

ThedaCare in Appleton, Wisconsin seeks an ICU RN 1 to provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced ICU. Schedule features 12-hour rotating shifts (5:30a–6p and 5:30p–6a) with every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation.

The role requires monitoring, ventilation management, vasoactive medications, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Prioritizes patient safety, education, and ongoing rounds with precepting responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN or compact nursing licensure.
• BSN required within five years of hire for non-BSN nurses.
• American Heart Association BLS and ACLS within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to critically ill patients, including those requiring ventilatory support and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and manage complex treatment protocols.
• Perform assessments of vital signs and symptoms, reporting changes to the healthcare team.
• Monitor patient stability using invasive and non-invasive techniques.
• Assist with central line insertions, intubation, and tracheostomy care.
• Document care activities in electronic health records.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and others to implement care plans.
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans and progress.
• Respond to emergencies (Code Blue) with life-saving interventions.
• Participate in rounds and contribute to interdisciplinary care planning.
• Precept and support new nurses and nursing students.
