Job summary

OU Medical Center seeks a Health Unit Coordinator to support the Critical Care Stepdown unit. Under nurse-manager supervision, you’ll help run patient care environments and coordinate with staff to optimize workflow.

The role emphasizes strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with proficiency in medical terminology and electronic records. Training and mentorship for new HUCs are provided.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare environment.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills and typing/keyboarding abilities.
• Familiarity with inventory and environmental services software.
• Understanding of electronic medical records and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, prepares and maintains patient medical records and files.
• Provides receptionist coverage: handle routine patient calls, intercom, mail, inquiries.
• Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges by coordinating with personnel.
• Maintains or arranges repair of equipment.
• Assists with inventory, stocking, and distribution of supplies.
• Supports healthcare team by anticipating and responding to requests.
• Mentors new HUCs.
• Participates in daily compliance audits and chart checks.
• Engages in quality improvement projects on the unit.
