Job summary

UCAN (Chicago) is looking for a Peer Support Specialist to provide hope-filled engagement and support to individuals in crisis. You will assist clients with recovery, self-advocacy, and navigating behavioral health systems.

The role involves maintaining documentation, linking clients to resources, and promoting personal growth in challenging situations. Candidates should have a high school diploma and lived experience with behavioral health needs.

This position requires work on-site with some evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid Drivers License.
• Has individual lived experience or experience as a caregiver with behavioral health needs.
• Demonstrates the ability to work within agency structure and accept supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide hope-filled engagement and support to individuals in crisis.
• Assist clients with symptom management and recovery.
• Promote personal growth and development with mental health issues.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions.

Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

Ability to handle high-stress situations

Strong understanding of community resources

Comfortability working in emotionally charged environments

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
