Job summary

DuPage County Health Department seeks a Peer Support/Engagement Specialist for Crisis Services, working Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 am–6:00 pm. This role focuses on following up with 988 callers, engaging clients in crisis, providing crisis intervention, and linking to needed resources.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, two years in behavioral health, and a commitment to obtaining the CRSS credential within one year.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the behavioral health field, including active participation in the recovery process; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Good knowledge of mental health crisis systems, recovery processes, and community resources.
• Ability to engage clients in crisis, de-escalate when needed, and provide skills training.

Responsibilities

• Follow up with individuals who contacted 988 and require ongoing crisis management; manage a caseload.
• Assist in de-escalation of clients in crisis through engagement and crisis intervention.
• Empower clients to progress through recovery phases; tailor services to diverse populations.
• Share recovery stories to model hopeful outcomes in a mutual, two-way process.
• Encourage linkage to healthcare resources and personal wellness goals post-crisis.
