Job summary

DuPage County Health Department is seeking a Peer Support/Engagement Specialist to join Crisis Services, working Thurs-Sun, 7:00 am–5:00 pm. The role focuses on engaging individuals in crisis, de-escalation, and recovery support while coordinating with the clinical team.

The position requires lived recovery experience, a valid driver's license, and commitment to on-site orientation. Training and credentialing support are provided as part of our comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the behavioral health field.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
• On-site, paid HR new hire orientation and training 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
• Must obtain CRSS credential within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Primary assignment on the Substance Use Stabilization Unit (Sobering Care and Withdrawal for adults).
• Establish rapport and strengthen engagement with individuals in substance use crisis.
• Assist in de-escalation of clients experiencing a mental health crisis through engagement with clients and coordination with team members.
• Role model positive recovery behaviors with clients in Crisis Programs.
• Provides skill building and case management to clients with high need.
• Maintaining required training, licensure and/or certification.
• Maintaining confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to client privacy laws.
• Demonstrating sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
• Adhering to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.
• Completing required documentation within established timeframes, through use of an Electronic Client Record.
• Participating in team meetings to assess clients’ progress.
• Participating in emergency response activities as assigned.
