Job summary

DuPage County Health Department in Wheaton, IL seeks a Peer Support/Engagement Specialist for Crisis Services, Sunday through Wednesday 12:00 pm–10:00 pm. You will join a two-person response team to assist individuals in crisis, de-escalate, and connect them to community resources.

Requirements include two years of behavioral health experience, a valid driver's license with a reliable vehicle, and willingness to disclose lived experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in behavioral health.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to disclose lived experience (mental health or substance use recovery).
• CRSS credential to be obtained within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Responds in the community to individuals in crisis as part of a two-person team.
• Assists in de-escalation through engagement and coordination with team members.
• Establishes rapport and strengthens engagement with clients throughout Crisis Programs.
• Role models positive recovery behaviors with clients in Crisis Programs.
• Provides skill building and case management to high-need clients.
• Maintains required training and confidentiality; adheres to privacy laws.
• Participates in team meetings and emergency response activities.
