Job summary

The City of Boston, through the Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH), seeks a Housing Stability Case Manager to respond to housing emergencies, assess needs, and help tenants find temporary or permanent housing. You will coordinate with landlords, community agencies, and city departments to preserve tenancies and access resources, while providing information and referrals to tenants and owners.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing case management services related to housing search and housing placement.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, public policy, government, business administration, or related field preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of resources available to landlords and tenants to preserve tenancies and assist with housing search.
• Excellent customer service and proven ability to work with the public.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with standard office technology (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Mail).
• Dual language capabilities are preferred.
• Good judgment and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Responds to housing emergencies and assists tenants with finding temporary and/or permanent housing.
• Assesses needs and status of at-risk or displaced individuals or families to determine housing options.
• Develops relationships with community-based agencies, property managers, and landlords to facilitate housing placement.
• Coordinates housing and services with other City departments for at-risk or displaced tenants.
• Provides information and referrals to landlords, tenants, and other constituents on tenancy relations.
• Triages phone cases between operations management and housing crisis coordinators.
• Hosts tenants' rights workshops and other offerings to support housing-related needs.
• Maintains client databases and required reports.
• Keeps up-to-date information on tenancy preservation and homelessness prevention resources.
