Nature of Work
Under limited supervision, the Criminal Justice Specialist 3 will be responsible for the management and supervision of at least two (2) Criminal Justice Specialists. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, managing the workflow of employees, creating schedules, and delegating tasks; assessing the work performance of employees and identifying areas that need improvement; ensuring that the section is meeting the goals and performance standards of the Department; and training and onboarding new hires to make sure they understand their duties and responsibilities.
The incumbent and his or her subordinate staff will be responsible for: 1) reviewing and approving/denying all grant adjustment requests submitted by Justice and Community Services’ sub-recipients; 2) conducting monthly technical assistance calls with all sub-recipients; 3) submitting quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and other types of progress reports for all federal grant programs administered by Justice and Community Services; and 4) management and oversight of Justice and Community Services; electronic grant filing system and conducting weekly audits on federal, state, and sub-recipient grant files.
The Criminal Justice Specialist 3 will also be solely responsible for writing and applying for multi-millions of dollars in new grant funding, as well as the administration of existing grant funds and oversight for state and federal grant programs. This includes collecting and processing financial reimbursement requests from sub-grantees, along with maintaining tracking systems for financial and programmatic grant activity. The Criminal Justice Specialist 3 will also support and facilitate meetings and events for various statewide committees, advisory board, and task forces; coordinate the administration of the annual grant review process for multiple programs; review or oversee the review of all applications for accuracy and completeness; correspond or oversee correspondence applicants on any changes that are needed; and prepare or supervise the preparation of investment packages with all recommended funding awards for submission to the Office of the Governor for approval.
