Job summary

The Town of Matthews Police Department seeks a Police Detective (Crime Analyst) to investigate crimes and provide analytical information on crime patterns, trends, and offender activity. The role supports resource deployment, intelligence sharing, and investigative decisions to increase case clearance.

The position requires a strong background in crime analysis, GIS, and data visualization, with a commitment to ethics and professional standards; NC licensure and BLET compliance are expected

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience as a sworn officer or equivalent.
• Ability to work with data and statistics; identify trends.
• Must obtain NC Driver's License within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs tactical and strategic crime analysis to identify patterns, trends, series, clusters, and hotspots using data from multiple sources.
• Conducts statistical, temporal, spatial, historical analyses to identify relationships and threats.
• Prepares investigative reports, briefs, and presentations for command staff and partners.
• Interacts with prosecutors, local, state, and federal agencies to exchange information and coordinate efforts.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Police Department.
