Job summary

The Town of Matthews Police Department seeks a Police Detective (Special Investigations) to methodically investigate crimes, conduct crime scene work, and testify in court as needed. You will operate under department policy, with strong emphasis on DOJ standards and state certifications.

Minimum requirements include education and experience with a background check, and the ability to obtain NC BLET certification within one year.

Qualifications

• Background and intensive background evaluation required.
• Two years of sworn officer experience as detective or investigator required.
• Must meet education and certification requirements including NC BLET eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary and supplemental investigations of felony and serious misdemeanor crimes.
• Perform crime scene investigations, evidence collection, and documentation.
• Prepare records, reports, and felony case files for court proceedings.
• Testify in local and federal court and coordinate with other agencies.
• Maintain equipment and establish contacts with the public and officials.
