Job summary

The City of Goldsboro is seeking a dependable Solid Waste Equipment Operator to perform semi-skilled to skilled collection and transport tasks for refuse, recyclables, vegetative debris, and bulk items. You will operate side loaders and grapple trucks, perform daily checks, and assist ground crews to keep routes running smoothly.

The role may require weekend shifts and disaster recovery duties; training on equipment and safety protocols is provided.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Five years of operating heavy equipment or related experience.
• Ability to follow safety rules and operate multiple waste collection vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Operates side loaders and grapple trucks as daily duty.
• Serves as crew leader when needed and trains others.
• Performs daily checks and maintenance scheduling for equipment.
• Collects refuse, recycled goods, leaves and bulky items for disposal.
• Records logs, prepares reports, and uses basic data input software.
• Works varied shifts including holidays or disaster recovery events.
