We are seeking an experienced Crew Lead - Fiber to oversee field crews performing fiber optic installations for voice, data, and network infrastructure projects. This role will be responsible for leading technicians in the field, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and according to quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on fiber experience, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality installations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise fiber installation crews on commercial construction and infrastructure projects
- Coordinate daily activities with Project Managers, customers, and other trades on‑site
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot single‑mode (SMF) and multi‑mode (MMF) fiber optic systems
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber optic cable
- Build and install telecommunications rooms including racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures, and cross‑connects
- Conduct OTDR, loss, continuity, and fiber certification testing
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues and resolve network deficiencies
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, quality standards, and safety procedures
- Complete project documentation including work orders, timesheets, material tracking, and change orders
- Lead jobsite safety meetings and enforce company safety policies
- Mentor and train junior technicians while maintaining productivity and workmanship standards
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of fiber optic installation experience
- Experience leading field crews or serving as a Lead Technician/Crew Lead
- Experience with fiber termination, testing, and troubleshooting
- Hands‑on OTDR testing experience
- Mechanical and fusion splicing experience
- Experience working with both single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber systems
- Ability to read construction drawings and project documentation
- Strong understanding of fiber infrastructure, telecommunications rooms, and structured cabling environments
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Corning, FOA, BICSI, or other fiber industry certifications
- Confined space entry experience
- Experience with MPO/MTP fiber systems
- Structured cabling experience (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
- Experience supporting large campus, healthcare, enterprise, or mission‑critical environments
