The Crew Foreman supervises and coordinates production and warehouse crews to ensure safe, efficient, and effective daily operations. Supports rice flow and packaging operations by monitoring production, coordinating precise equipment setups and changeovers, and addressing routine equipment and maintenance needs to minimize downtime and maintain production output. Performs maintenance and general repairs that do not require additional personnel and provides direction and instruction to operators in performing routine operator maintenance on equipment. Ensures all production and maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with applicable workplace safety requirements, HARPC, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and company policies and procedures.
High school diploma or GED is preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Must possess the ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, maintenance requests, and other technical documentation. Must be able to communicate clearly in written and verbal form, perform basic mathematical calculations, and work accurately with decimals, fractions, angles, measurements, and ratios. Must be proficient in using computers in a Windows® environment and be able to learn and utilize company-specific software or production systems.
The Crew Foreman must have the ability to troubleshoot equipment, understand basic mechanical and electrical systems, perform or direct routine maintenance activities, and provide guidance to operators and crew members regarding equipment operation and maintenance.
2 - 5 years of related work experience or documented vocational training required.
Works under the general supervision the Specialty Plant Manager
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other departments. Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
Must have a working knowledge of rice processing equipment, conveying systems, spouting, and packaging equipment. Must understand the flow of rice from processing through conveying, storage, and packaging and how equipment performance, product flow, line speeds, downtime, changeovers, and material availability affect production output and efficiency.
Must possess mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance skills necessary to perform routine maintenance and general repairs within the scope of the Crew Foreman's training and qualifications. Must be able to recognize equipment conditions that require additional technical support and determine when a Packaging Maintenance Technician or other qualified maintenance personnel is needed.
Must be proficient in equipment setup and changeover procedures and understand the importance of accurate setup to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production. Must be cross-trained and capable of performing required Specialty Plant operations, including forklift operation, cycle counting, material handling, and other production and warehouse duties.
Must be able to recognize and respond to conditions that may affect equipment performance, product quality, food safety, production efficiency, or employee safety. Must be able to communicate issues effectively and take appropriate action to minimize downtime and maintain production output.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), work in confined or close spaces and dusty environments, work at heights of 100 feet or more both indoors and outdoors, climb stairs and ladders, and safely lift or move materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Basic sheet metal fabrication skills are preferred.
