Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of State standards and requirements for the full range of teaching credentials.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational practices related to employment of teachers with credentials, certificates, or permits in the California school systems.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the credentialing process; thorough knowledge of school internship programs.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand and use data management software systems used for the Credential Student Service Center.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with department chairs, faculty, students, the university community, and the general public.
  • Demonstrates ability to use CSU East Bay computer-based tools such as: PeopleSoft, Singularity and the Credential Services Student Center designed Database (MyCOE) and acknowledgement of computer applications such as: MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Internet.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and projects and the ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Demonstrates the ability to advise applications, candidates, and students on the routes to certification.
  • Demonstrates troubleshooting skills and resolve difficult situations.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand CTC and CAEO accreditation policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge acquired from attending the annual conference training with the Credential Counselors and Analyst of California (CCAC) and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the state agency that oversees education preparation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous oversight of candidate files, including transcripts and other documents required by each credential program.
  • Accurately interpret and apply state, university and program requirements for each credential program to assess documented candidate qualifications.
  • Accurately inform candidates when documents are incomplete, inaccurate, or missing.
  • Process applications for admission.
  • Process credential applications and update records.
  • Interpret laws and regulations to advise candidates regarding coursework necessary to meet California credentialing requirements.
  • Conduct workshops for candidates who have completed the program.
  • Advise out-of-state and out-of-country trained candidates on procedures to obtain initial California credentials.
  • Assist faculty members, other staff, and administrators in interpreting state requirements on all certifications.
  • Provide on-call advice to credential holders of renewal processes and requirements.
  • Assist with processing admissions for all programs.
  • Assist with Peoplesoft coding for completers.
  • Advise and hold Q&A sessions with completing students to assist in the actual application process and review requirements for added authorizations.
  • Inform candidates regarding any pending regulatory changes.
  • Effectively communicate with credential candidates, faculty, staff, other institutions, employers and service users.
  • Facilitate presentations for prospective students.
  • Conduct updates of candidate records to document progress.
  • Provide accurate reports of progress to candidates and faculty advisors.
  • Assist with gathering data for reports required for Chancellor's Office, State, and Federal Agencies.
  • Final review of student records to determine eligibility for certification.
  • Full authority to notify and submit online recommendations to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing that a credential, certificate or teaching permit be issued to an applicant.
  • Issue verification of program completion to candidates, school districts, and county offices of education, providing a basis for employment to our teachers.
