Job summary

Whole Foods Market in Honolulu seeks a Bakery Decorator to craft cakes and pastries, decorate and assemble items, and provide exceptional customer service. You will assist apprentices, manage production flow, and ensure product quality and display standards within a fast-paced bakery environment.

Ideal candidates have 6–12 months of retail or restaurant experience and completed Bakery Decorator Apprentice training or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills including piping and flowers.
• Understanding color theory for buttercream blending and palettes.
• Proficiency with various icing types (Swiss, American, ganache, cream cheese, etc.).
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain schedules.
• Strong knife handling and safety.
• Basic math for recipe conversions.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Able to meet customer service standards.
• Work well in a fast-paced environment with urgency.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes, tarts, and bakery items.
• Build, ice, and decorate cakes following standard procedures.
• Prioritize production lists and adjust as needed.
• Merchandise products in display cases and rotate stock for freshness.
• Provide guidance to Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
• Create custom cake designs per customer requests.
• Deliver excellent customer service and respond to inquiries promptly.
• Maintain clean and sanitary work and shop areas; comply with safety standards.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties with accurate signage and pricing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
