General Description

This position assists in implementing recreation programs and activities for all ages in the city.

Available Monday–Saturday between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM; weekend availability required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work as a floater supporting all recreation centers.
  • Organize, instruct, and supervise a variety of recreational activities for youth, seniors, special needs, fitness, sports leagues, after‑school and summer programs, arts & crafts, and special events; assist in creating and planning programs; teach classes, clinics, and skills; enforce rules and regulations; maintain safeguards against accidents; transport participants as required.
  • Conduct customer service functions in person or by telephone; provide information or assistance regarding department services, activities, forms, procedures, fees, or other issues; check participants in and out of facilities.
  • Process registrations for recreation programs; verify forms for completeness and accuracy; collect and document fees and other revenues; prepare deposit and daily revenue reports; create and maintain class and participation logs; collect and analyze data related to assigned programs.
  • Promote programs and activities: design and prepare schedules, flyers, and promotional materials; distribute information; attend meetings to promote recreational programming, answer questions, and provide information.
  • Ensure the maintenance and preparation of buildings, grounds, and physical facilities in the assigned areas; inspect facilities; conduct general maintenance and custodial duties such as lining fields, cleaning restrooms, sweeping floors, stocking concessions, and removing trash; submit repair requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Give tours of facilities; open/close facilities; set up/break down tables and chairs; copy and file documents; enter computer data.
  • Process a variety of documentation associated with department operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; review and complete forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation including class rosters, attendance records, schedules, lesson plans, incident reports; compile data; maintain computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Operate or use equipment and supplies: operate a personal computer and other office equipment as necessary.
  • Communicate with supervisor, other employees, clients, and the public as needed to coordinate work activities, review status, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience in parks and recreation, including recreational programming.
  • Must possess and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid; additional certifications may be required.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history required.

Physical Ability: Tasks require light physical effort (e.g., lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light objects up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard.

Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive visual cues and signals; ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
