Job summary

Port Houston is seeking an Apprentice Crane Technician in Bayport to learn inspections, maintenance and troubleshooting of cranes under close supervision. The program combines classroom hours with 8,000 hours of paid on-the-job training, lasting up to five years.

You will develop mechanical and electrical skills, study electrical controls and blueprints, and follow safety procedures while collaborating with Crane Technicians, Mechanics and Electricians.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment.
• A valid Texas driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspections, maintenance and troubleshooting of wharf and RTG cranes.
• Learn safety and environmental procedures for crane operations.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with Crane Technicians, Mechanics and Electricians.
• Study electrical controls, circuits and blueprints related to Port Houston equipment.
• Perform time-critical repairs and preventative maintenance as required.
