Overview
Job Description:
- Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The Operator will be required to unload crane accessories from trailers or support vehicles.
- The Operator receives direction from riggers and/or site supervision via verbal or hand signals to determine required load movement.
- The Operator will be required to perform pre- and post-trip inspections along with daily and monthly equipment inspections.
- Operators also follow appropriate safety procedures and maintain logs of vehicle repair status and working hours (FMCSA).
- Operator typically works under direct supervision and is expected to work long hours with frequent sitting, standing, moving, and climbing.
- The Operator is subject to possible exposure to extreme year-round outdoor environmental conditions and may also be subject to working weekends and holidays.
- This position is based in Caroline County, Virginia, and candidates will need to dispatch to jobsites; travel will be an element of this position, usually no longer than a week.
Responsibilities:
Operates various types of cranes to lift material, objects, or personnel into place; drives crane to the work site and properly sets up per the manufacturer's operator manual and company rules regarding cribbing/matting, cribbing blocks or mats as required. Directs activities of oilers, truck drivers, or helpers in setting up and dismantling the equipment, placing cribbing blocks and/or pads. May operate crane according to signals from oiler or helper and may bolt, pin boom sections together to modify boom lengths. Works as part of a team, including ground crew, depending on the task. Involved in all scopes of modular delivery.
- High school diploma or GED with 1-5 years of experience.
- Perform routine maintenance.
- Carry tools for repairs.
- Wear PPE safety equipment.
- Properly barricade the counterweight tail swing radius.
- Ensure safety during setup, operation, and dismantling of the crane.
- Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Knowledgeable in OSHA Regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
- Ability to read and speak English.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent with 1-5 years of experience.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
Desired:
- Proficient in oral and written communication, technical, and functional skills.
- Possession of a CDL Class A license, NCCCO, TSS, TLL, LBC certifications is preferred.
Abilities:
- Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
- Perform routine physical activities including walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, and hearing ability, with effective communication in English.
- Use standard ladders within weight limits while carrying tools.
- Recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.
- Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers.
- Combine information to form general rules or conclusions, recognizing relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
