Job summary

Norsk Hydro's Phoenix plant is seeking a Packing/Crane Operator to safely move aluminum products, racks and materials on a 12-hour night shift.

You will perform pre-shift inspections, supply packing stations, and support production flow while following OSHA safety rules and 5S housekeeping standards, contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient workplace.

Qualifications

• Overhead crane operation safely in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read, understand and follow basic verbal and written English instructions.
• Ability to complete pre-use inspections and report safety or equipment issues.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform climbing, reaching, walking, and lifting per OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes to move aluminum products, racks, bundles, and materials in packing/production areas.
• Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and report defects or safety concerns.
• Supply packing stations with materials and remove scrap to support production flow.
• Follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout and JSAs; participate in daily safety meetings.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area using 5S practices and housekeeping.
• Assist with packing, banding, and other production tasks when crane work isn't required.

Starting Rate of pay: $21.89

Shifts Available and Hours:

Night Shift 6:00P to 6:00 AM EOWEO

Shift Premium: $1.50/hour extra for shift differential

What you will be doing

• Operate overhead cranes to safely move aluminum products, racks, bundles, and materials throughout the packing and production areas.
• Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and report equipment defects, malfunctions, or safety concerns immediately.
• Supply packing stations with required materials and remove scrap or completed product efficiently to support production flow.
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements, job safety analyses (JSAs), and participation in daily safety meetings.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area through housekeeping and 5S practices.
• Assist with packing, banding, and other production activities when crane operation duties are not required.

What will make you successful?

Required Education/Experience:

• Ability to operate an overhead crane safely and efficiently in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to understand, speak, and follow basic verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to complete pre-use equipment inspections and accurately identify and report safety or equipment issues.
• Ability to work standing for extended periods and perform frequent climbing, reaching, walking, and lifting within OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to read, understand, and consistently follow work instructions, safety procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous overhead crane operating experience in a manufacturing, extrusion, metals, or industrial production environment.
• Experience supporting packaging, shipping, or material handling operations.
• Familiarity with 5S, housekeeping standards, and continuous improvement practices.
• Experience conducting equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe material handling practices.
