Position: Crane Operator
Location: Chattanooga/Ringgold
Reports to: Branch Manager
Southway Crane & Rigging is looking to add experienced full-time crane operators to our growing branch. The following are the requirements; you must meet all of them to be considered for this position.
Summary: Ensures safety first, along with the safe lifting of loads, proper crane setup, and maintaining customer focus. Follows all State and Federal laws while operating motor vehicles. Adheres to safety and environmental policies while performing job tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Review upcoming job assignments at the end of each shift and ensure all rigging and equipment are ready.
- Complete Field Ticket and submit to the local branch office, noting any chargeable equipment used.
- Maintain a payroll book daily with hours worked; report hours to the branch office by 10:00 a.m. each Monday.
- If not on a job, inspect, clean, and perform maintenance on equipment; inform supervisor of availability.
- Promptly answer phone/pager calls.
- Assist in training safe crane operation procedures.
- Review crane manuals and service documentation periodically.
- Clean, inspect, and organize equipment in the shop and yard; maintain cleanliness of shop, racks, and break room.
- Read, interpret, and calculate load percentages using crane load charts and manuals.
- Program crane computers for proper setup and operate cranes safely and professionally.
- Ensure signal persons understand and perform correct hand signals before lifts.
- Perform proper rigging techniques to ensure safe loads.
- Inspect crane, truck, and trailer before operation; complete vehicle inspection reports and submit them.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current state-issued CDL A license with no restrictions.
- Must possess a current NCCCO or NCCER crane operating certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of hydraulic crane operation experience.
- Ability to operate crane using hand signals.
Skills Required:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for understanding instructions, safety regulations, and record-keeping.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
