Role Summary

The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor performs; Training, Certification & Recertification and Registration Program to ensure that individuals meet American Heart Association CPR, AED and first aid training requirements. At a minimum covering Basic Life Support CPR training, certification, and registration requirements.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for conducting CPR classes/training at approved locations.
• Curriculum and instruction to align with and be in compliance with American Heart Association in development and teaching lesson plans covering CPR, AED, first aid, and related safety areas. While integrating theory with practical skills.
• Classroom supervision to include overseeing and guiding students during hands-on practice in lab and instructional settings, ensuring proper application of skills.
• Student management includes skills training, motivating, and evaluating students from diverse backgrounds, preparing them for the state certification exam.
• Program coordination and completion including complete registrations of students in program, maintaining student records, and report on student achievement.
• Provide re/certification training and education to new students and approved remedial activities for existing and prior students.
• Assist with updates to training curriculums as approved by VU and American Heart Association.
• Maintain up to date files on approved classroom and registration activities.
• Communicates, with as much lead time as possible, with VU management and students on class schedules, timing and other changes.
• Comply with privacy practices and procedures related to clinical records and all state and federal privacy practices and procedures related to clinical records and all state and federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.
• Participate in recruitment and retention activities
• Participate in program assessment

Your Qualifications

• Preferred – Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Indiana
• An approved and active instructor with American Heart Association with active training site approval.
• Minimum of one year nursing experience, two years preferred. Substitution of 4 years as a Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or similar field requiring active patient care may be considered.
• Documented proof of completion of an American Heart Association approved training course.
• In good standing and meet all other American Heart Association conditions to teach and certify.
• History of working cohesively and cooperatively in a training environment.
• Ability to foster a positive learning environment for students
• Commitment and desire to go above and beyond to serve our diverse community

Supplemental Skills / Experience

• Associate’s Degree with LPN or RN licensing preferred
• Experience teaching and training
• Experience with leading training in classroom and testing environments
