The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services seeks a Child Protective Investigations Specialist to conduct forensics and safety assessments in suspected abuse or neglect cases. You will interview families, review evidence, and coordinate with law enforcement and medical staff to protect children.

This role requires flexibility for after-hours on-call duties, travel for home visits, and handling high-stress environments while maintaining objectivity and empathy for families.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child development.
• Knowledge of family dynamics.
• Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Skill in problem solving techniques.
• Ability to operate a personal computer.
• Ability to travel and attend visits after 5pm.
• Ability to be on call rotating with irregular hours.

Responsabilités

• Responds quickly in crisis situations involving children who may be in danger.
• Conducts forensic investigations to determine abuse/neglect and assesses risk.
• Observes children for signs of harm and assesses causes.
• Interviews family members, caregivers, reporters, and professionals.
• Assesses safety and takes actions to protect the child, including possible removal.
• Maintains documentation and completes required forms timely.
• Gathers information to support placement if DFPS custody is needed.
• Participates in on-call rotation after hours and weekends.
