Job summary

City of Chesapeake seeks a part-time Security Officer I to protect court facilities. You will screen visitors and belongings, check IDs, and respond to emergencies in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus related experience and possibly DCJS certification.

The position is 25 hours per week, with typical Monday–Friday shifts; a valid driver’s license may be required. Salary is paid hourly with benefits brochure available.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
• Minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• May be certified by the DCJS depending on assignment; driving license and driving record may be required.
• Employees may be required to work hours beyond the scheduled shift in response to department needs.

Responsibilities

• Check identification of persons entering and exiting the facility to prevent unauthorized visitors.
• Conduct comprehensive X-ray screenings of baggage, parcels, personal items and belongings.
• Maintain a secure environment in a fast-paced court setting and assist visitors.
• Respond to activation of the emergency alarm system or incidents and manage evacuations or lockdowns.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Education
