Maine Judicial Branch is seeking certified law enforcement officers and qualified individuals to become Deputy Judicial Marshals in Portland, ME. This full-time role focuses on court security, safety, and orderly operations within Cumberland County Courthouse.

The ideal candidate will have High school diploma or GED, complete the Maine CJ Academy Pre-Service Training, and qualify for state marshal certification within a year, with a firearm qualification and ability to pass a polygraph and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training program.
• Interest in supporting Maine courts and becoming certified as a Judicial Marshal.
• Ability to interact effectively with judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public.
• Eligible for certification within one year of employment.
• Qualified with an agency-issued firearm per policy, and able to pass polygraph and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Judicial Marshal for the court and ensure court-day security.
• Enforce Maine laws within the courthouse and monitor security equipment.
• Observe entrants and movements in the courtroom and assist with paperwork flow.
• Patrol public areas and announce court session openings and closings.
• Direct people to locations and provide information on schedules.
• Maintain training requirements and respond to emergencies.
