About Us: Cypress College is a Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) and was awarded a DHSI Title V grant in 2019, as well as named an Equity Champion for our support for Latinx transfer in 2021 and 2022. This full-time faculty member will be responsible for working cooperatively with staff, faculty, administration and students to provide Court Reporting Department classes that focus on a learning environment that fosters student success and enables students to achieve their academic and career objectives. The mission of the department makes the best efforts to support students’ academic achievement working towards employment and supporting career objectives through various guided pathways.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
  • OR Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
  • OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;
  • OR The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with stenography emphasizing accuracy and the ability to instruct students in software usage.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach court reporting software with emphasis on transcript preparation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in English, Legal and Medical terminology with a mastery of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling.
  • Demonstrated understanding of modern reporting methods using realtime
  • Demonstrated teaching ability and experience in a Court Reporting program.
  • Demonstrated experience with stenotype machines, computer aided transcription software, and updated technologies related to Court Reporting.
  • Demonstrated focus on ethical standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to counsel students in the certification standards for the Certified Shorthand Reporters license and/or a Registered Professional Reporter’s license.
  • Relevant professional experience and involvement with professional associations.
  • Preferred: Familiarization with Court Reporting licensing requirements.
