Job summary

Court Reporting Instructor

This full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position is responsible for teaching Court Reporting classes to diverse students at Cypress College, participating in curriculum development, and promoting equity in instruction. The position pays $85,541–$128,379 annually under the faculty collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Court Reporting classes for credit and non‑credit courses, including credentialing and speed mastery topics.
  • Develop and update curriculum and course materials, aligning with Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  • Participate in department, division, college, and district committees to maintain and improve the instructional program.
  • Plan, implement, and teach special programs designed to support student success.
  • Maintain office and campus hours; attend meetings; complete clerical and administrative duties.
  • Stay current with new and emerging instructional technologies.
  • Provide culturally responsive teaching to a diverse student population, including students who are historically underserved.
  • Adhere to district policies, including compliance with academic, fiscal, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) and two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
  • or Associate degree and six years of professional experience;
  • or a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject area;
  • or equivalent qualifications recognized by the District Equivalency Committee.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in transcribing for courts, depositions, and teaching Court Reporting software.
  • Knowledge of English, legal, and medical terminology.
  • Experience with stenography and stenotype machines, computer‑aided transcription software, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with Court Reporting licensing requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
