Cypress College in Cypress, CA, seeks a Court Reporting Instructor in the Credit Faculty classification for 100% employment, 10 months per year, full-time tenure-track. The instructor will teach court reporting courses for credit and non-credit programs, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in college and district committees.

Responsibilities include maintaining office hours, engaging in professional development, and supporting student success with diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment
• Any associate degree and six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment
• Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area
• The equivalent. Equivalency may include related education, training, employment and professional experience as determined by the District Equivalency Committee

Overview

Court Reporting Instructor in the Credit Faculty classification. Location: Cypress College. 100% employment, 10 months per year. Full Time, Tenure Track.

Primary Purpose

Teach Court Reporting classes for credit and non-credit courses to a diverse student population. Include topics such as credentialing and speed mastery and related fields. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities. Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the SLO assessment cycle. Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies relevant to the assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed feedback. Develop culturally relevant course content and practices to engage diverse and historically underserved students. Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Special Requirements

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on an official transcript. If the degree award date is not posted on the transcript, the application will be deemed incomplete. Grade cards are not accepted in lieu of transcripts. All degrees and coursework used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions. Foreign degree evaluations may be required. Information is available on the college website.

Minimum Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with stenography emphasizing accuracy and instruction in software usage.
• Ability to teach court reporting software with emphasis on transcript preparation.
• Knowledge of English, Legal and Medical terminology with strong grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling.
• Understanding of modern reporting methods using real-time transcription.
• Teaching ability and experience in a Court Reporting program; experience with stenotype machines and related software.
• Commitment to ethical standards and fostering a diverse, inclusive learning environment.
• Ability to counsel students on certification standards for licensing.
• Relevant professional experience and involvement with professional associations.
• Familiarity with Court Reporting licensing requirements preferred.
