English Instructor Pool-Part-Time

Special Instructions Summary

This recruitment will remain active for a period of one year, from the position opening date. If there is no longer a need to fill, the position may be closed sooner, and applicants will be notified. This is a continuous recruitment to fill part‑time, and temporary faculty assignments on an as‑needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part‑time faculty.

All degrees and coursework used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism OR equivalent.
  • Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practices within the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent lower division or community college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.
  • Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with teaching and mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities such as African‑American/Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Pacific Islander, Native American, women, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities.
