Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist children in getting on/off the bus and aid them during transit.
  • Check bus passes to prevent unauthorized riders.
  • Assist the driver with school bus safety and procedures.
  • Stay with riders during breakdowns or emergencies while driver seeks help.
  • Follow procedures from Special Education personnel and IEP mandates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
  • Engage in ongoing professional training to improve knowledge.
  • Represent the school system positively at all times.

Job Description
Title: School Bus Aide
Immediate Supervisor: School Principal and Driver
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Valid CPR and First Aid training when assigned to exceptional children
  3. Possess 30 hours of in-service training for exceptional children OR complete in the first 6 months of employment
  4. Good general health
Skills and Abilities:
  1. Possesses general understanding of procedures in the Morgan County Transportation Handbook
  2. Maintains proper control and assistance to students without distracting the driver
  3. Manages time efficiently by arriving at bus 15 minutes prior to loading time and not allowing other jobs or responsibilities to interfere with bus position
Essential Functions:
  1. Assists young or exceptional children in getting on and off the bus and provides assistance to the child in route
  2. Checks bus passes to prevent unauthorized riders
  3. Assists the driver in all aspects of school bus safety and other procedures
  4. Stays with riders in the event of breakdown or other emergency while the driver seeks assistance
  5. Follows all procedures communicated by Special Education personnel and follows all IEP mandates
  6. Performs other special duties as assigned by the director
  7. Engages in continuous professional training that enhances personal knowledge and self-improvement
  8. Represents the school system, department, and all school personnel in a positive manner at all times
Other Attributes:
  1. Physically able to perform all duties associated with position in keeping with state and federal guidelines
  2. Demonstrates that the safety of children is the number one priority
  3. Wears appropriate clothing and is well-groomed

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
