  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and inviting bus
  • Assists director and all other drivers in developing and maintaining a productive and safe environment for all students
  • Engages in continuous professional training that enhances personal knowledge and self-improvement
  • Represents the school system, department, and all school personnel in a positive manner at all times

Job Description
Title: School Bus Driver
Immediate Supervisor: Transportation Director & School Principal
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  3. Good general health based on current NTSB and state agency requirements
Skills and Abilities:
  1. Completes all written reports in a legible and timely manner
  2. Maintains proper management and discipline of students, prepares discipline referrals for principal, and escorts unruly students to the school office
  3. Communicates in an effective and respectful manner to administrative personnel at the school, parents, teachers, and students
  4. Manages time efficiently by arriving at bus 15 minutes prior to loading time, not allowing other jobs or responsibilities to interfere with bus driver position, and is consistent with route times for pickup and delivery of students
  5. Flexible with changes to assigned routes and student pickups in order to efficiently and effectively transport students to and from school.
Essential Functions:
  1. Obeys all traffic laws

Other Attributes:
  1. Physically able to perform all duties associated with position in keeping with state and federal guidelines
  2. Demonstrates that the safety of children is the number one priority and by not transporting unauthorized persons and making only authorized stops
  3. Wears appropriate clothing and is well-groomed
  4. Contributes and encourages a team effort and desire to serve the school system including other drivers, members of the community, parents, and students.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
