Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a County Caseworker 1 to support children, families, and the community from Wayne County. This full‑time civil service role focuses on improving social, emotional, and physical functioning through structured training and guided casework under close supervision.

Responsibilities include interviews, eligibility reviews, referrals, and maintaining records, with occasional evenings, weekends, and travel. Telework is not offered for this position.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or related paraprofessional case management functions.
• Two years of college-level coursework which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
• Bachelor's degree with 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 college credits and one year of paraprofessional case management experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client interviews to gather social histories and assess needs.
• Determine and verify eligibility for services.
• Provide referrals, program information, and supportive counseling.
• Maintain an active caseload and ensure accurate records.
• Assist in arranging supportive and protective services for at‑risk children.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, and attend court proceedings as assigned.

Education

12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences

Bachelor's degree including 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences

Equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 college credits in social sciences and one year of paraprofessional case management
