Job summary

BALTIMORE COUNTY is seeking a Deputy County Attorney to assist with litigation, transactional and administrative matters for the Baltimore County government. Under supervision, you will handle civil litigation in state and federal courts and manage related discovery and documentation.

The role requires an ABA-accredited law degree and Maryland bar admission. Responsibilities include advisory duties to County executives and participation in negotiations with unions and agencies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Maryland, or eligible to waive into the Maryland bar.

Responsibilities

• Conducts civil litigation in circuit and district courts for Baltimore County.
• Prosecute and defend civil appeals in Maryland and federal courts; prepare records and briefs.
• Conducts legal research for litigation matters.
• Prepare briefs, memos, discovery tools, motions, and other documents for civil litigation.
• Conduct discovery including depositions and requests for production of documents.
• Represent the County in administrative proceedings and negotiations with unions and other groups.
• Drafts legal documents not related to litigation (contracts, deeds, leases, ordinances, real estate and tax sale reports).
• Defends the County in union grievances and discrimination matters; drafts position statements.
