Job Description

Full time * San Francisco, CA * Hybrid

Flynn Group (including its subsidiaries such as Apple American Group, Bell American Group, Pan American Group, RB American Group, Hut American Group, Wend American Group, and Flynn Fitness Group) seeks an exceptional Employment Counsel to join its industry-recognized legal team. In this role, you will litigate, counsel, and support compliance efforts for the world’s largest franchise operator, with over 2,600 restaurants and gyms, and more than 75,000 employees across the U.S. and Australia. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and to contribute to the success of iconic brands like Applebee’s, Taco Bell, Panera, Arby’s, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut, and Planet Fitness.

The position may be based in any of our Support Centers located in San Francisco, CA; Cleveland, OH; or Overland Park, KS.

Responsibilities
  • Support handling litigation and arbitration matters from start to finish, including interviewing witnesses, depositions, written discovery, motion practice, pre-trial dispute resolution, arbitration, and trial participation.
  • Provide advice on a wide range of employment issues such as wage and hour, payroll, benefits, hiring, performance management, internal investigations, leaves of absence, discipline, terminations, employee classification, and privacy.
  • Respond to agency charges, government audits, and demand letters.
  • Collaborate with Legal, HR, Payroll, Operations, Risk, and Training teams on compliance matters, conduct wage and hour audits, advise on legal updates, and support training initiatives.
  • Update and revise company policies in response to legal and regulatory changes.
  • Monitor relevant legislation, regulations, and case law, communicating updates and recommendations.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Requirements
  • 5-7 years of employment law experience.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; bar admission in good standing. California Bar admission or deep knowledge of California law is preferred.
  • Experience in employment litigation and knowledge of federal and state employment laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, FEHA, PAGA). Privacy counseling experience is a plus.
  • Experience with single plaintiff litigation; class/representative actions is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, ability to work independently, and good judgment for escalation.
  • Ability to manage multiple objectives and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Exceptional client service, communication skills, and a positive attitude aligned with the company's culture.
  • Passion for practicing law.
