Job summary

ADM is seeking a Cost Excellence Engineering Intern in Decatur, IL to support cost-improvement initiatives across manufacturing, supply chain, maintenance, engineering, and finance. The role offers hands-on experience in a large-scale operation with cross-functional exposure.

The intern will work on projects reducing cost per unit, improving yield, and enhancing energy efficiency, while learning DMAIC, data analytics, and lean methodologies in a practical environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, or related field.
• GPA minimum of 2.8 (3.0 preferred).
• Willingness to relocate to ADM locations in North America.
• Background check required.
• Work visa sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Analyze plant performance data (cost per unit, yield, downtime, throughput, labor productivity, maintenance cost, energy usage).
• Identify productivity gaps, process losses, waste, and cost-improvement opportunities.
• Support Lean, Six Sigma, and DMAIC-based projects.
• Assist with process mapping, data collection, root cause analysis, project charters, action plans, and status updates.
• Participate in continuous improvement meetings and kaizen events.
• Develop basic analytical tools (Pareto charts, loss trees, trend analyses, dashboards, scorecards).
• Support energy efficiency efforts and analyze energy cost drivers.
• Analyze equipment downtime, maintenance costs, spare parts usage, uptime, reliability trends.
• Collaborate with Finance and Operations to track savings and summarize recommendations.
