Job description

Marco Group is a family‑owned corporation that has been in business for nearly 30 years, growing from a regional supplier into a trusted manufacturer for schools across the U.S. We have invested more than $2 million in equipment and technology over the last two years, expanding capacity and improving quality. With nearly 200 000 sq ft of manufacturing and warehousing under roof and a broad, expanding product portfolio, the company is entering a major scale‑up phase.

About Marco Group

As we grow, financial clarity, cost discipline, and real‑time operational insight are more important than ever. This role is central to that next chapter.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Cost & Operations Controller who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys rolling up their sleeves to understand how the plant truly operates. This position will strengthen our costing processes, improve financial visibility, and bring real‑time insight to the numbers that drive our business forward.

This role will report to our part‑time CFO with a clear transition plan to assume broader leadership responsibility as he phases out. The right person will be positioned to grow into our future Director of Finance.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and maintain all product costing models, including labor assumptions, routings, yields, scrap factors, and overhead allocations.
  • Build and improve real‑time reporting on labor efficiency, material usage, scrap, throughput, and product‑level profitability.
  • Partner closely with Operations and Sales to support accurate pricing, margin analysis, and cost visibility.
  • Lead variance analysis and support month‑end close processes.
  • Strengthen internal controls around materials, inventory accuracy, and work‑in‑process.
  • Develop simple, effective dashboards to give leadership better visibility into daily and weekly performance.
  • Identify trends early and recommend actionable steps to improve margins and operational efficiency.
  • Take on increasing financial leadership responsibilities as part of our succession plan.
What Success Looks Like
  • Accurate, up‑to‑date cost structures.
  • Improved visibility into plant performance.
  • Stronger pricing and margin discipline.
  • Closer alignment between Finance, Operations, and Sales.
  • A smooth transition into a broader financial leadership role over time.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years in manufacturing cost accounting, plant controlling, or related experience.
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, routings, labor modeling, overhead allocation, and cost drivers.
  • Advanced Excel skills; BI tools (Power BI/Tableau) a plus.
  • Familiarity with Sage 100 is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to partner effectively across Operations, Sales, and Leadership.
  • A proactive, analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Clear communication skills — able to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Interest in long‑term financial leadership as the company continues to grow.
Why This Role Matters

Marco Group is scaling quickly. To support that growth, we need deeper costing discipline, stronger analysis, and real‑time insight into plant performance. This role drives those improvements and helps ensure we continue delivering exceptional value to schools across the country.
